ANGONO MOTHERS: A Tribute to the Mothers of Angon (VHS)
This is maybe a late recognition. But heck, there was no blog then.
Your Angono philosophical sojourn is incomplete if you have not met and been nurtured by Angono Mothers.
For sure, nobody can forget Ate Goyie. She would slowly trek the hills of Hail Mary just to give blessings. She has a peculiar way of taking care of one. Unfortunately, we were not able to enjoy much of her company because of age gap. But, you should not miss when she invites you to Angono Fiesta.
Others have known and been close to Ate Nene Tolentino, especially the batch of Fr. Kiko and Andoy. There was even a story that Andoy was sent by her to a dermatologist for fear that his pimples will ruin his face if untreated.
And who can forget Ate Pina (technically and biologically, she may not be a mother). Devoid of the physical and cultural substance to be called a mother, yet he was essentially a mother not only to Gundo, Lourdes, Tess and Tina, but to some of us also. Untiringly, she sewed for our sotana.
The closest Angono mother to me was Ate Minyang. She was brought to us through the Patrician talks, but she stayed in our memory even until her death. Although supposed to pre-occupy herself to Mang Beloy, Abel and her daughter, yet she extended herself not only to VHS but to the parish of St. Clement.
She is dear to me. She stood as my foster parent during my graduation in college. Brimming with smile, she was there beside me, marching and having a great time. I still have our picture.
There were still other mothers that came along during our last year in Angono. Ate Lerma and Mommy were there, so as Judge, so as the mother of Che, (nice bai, remember your bday?)
When we came to De Paul, we were blessed to have Tess, Susan and of course, Aling Flor.
I know there were others, the point is: mothers are always there with us.
